September 2015

4th September 2015

 Dear Parents and Carers,

First of all I would like to say ‘Welcome back’ to you all. I hope that you all had an enjoyable and restful summer break. A special welcome goes to those of you who are new to the school. I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks.

The staff have been in school working hard during the holidays to ensure the children have a great start to the term. Information about the learning in each class will be sent out separately.

We have many exciting activities planned for the term ahead. There is a list of dates on the back of each letter but please keep an eye on the weekly bulletin for further details of events and activities.

We would like to welcome several new members of staff to the school. Miss Stanley (Nursery), Mrs Osmond (Year 3), Mrs Bricher (Year 4) and Mrs Forbes (Midday Meals Supervisor). We wish them every success at St James the Great Academy.

Congratulations to Miss Wright who got married in the holiday and is now Mrs Page.

As many of you are aware the structure of the Leadership Team has changed this year. I am now very proud to be Principal of the Academy. Mrs Chalk and Mrs Page are Assistant Principals and Mrs Edwards is Key Stage 2 leader.

 Priorities for the Year

Following the many positive achievements of the last few years, we look forward to continuing our journey towards outstanding. Our key areas for development this year are:

·       Language and vocabulary development

·       Achievement and progress of all pupils particularly the more able

·       Promotion of citizenship and British values

Many of you will have heard about the changes to the National Curriculum and Assessment in 2014. This year we hope to embed those changes and continue to develop and exciting and engaging curriculum which will continue to raise standards.

Thank you for sending your children back to school looking so smart in their school uniforms. Can I remind you that the children should now be in their autumn/ winter uniform, so no more summer dresses or shorts please.

We will once again be holding spot checks for uniform. Children with correct uniform will receive a raffle ticket. At the end of the year the raffle will be drawn and prizes received:           1st-  School jumper or cardigan and PE kit    2nd- School jumper or cardigan      3rd -  PE kit

Any Year 6 who win will receive a high street voucher for the same amount of money.

It was lovely to see everyone back to school and on time today and yesterday. Please can I remind you that good punctuality and attendance are vital to your child’s success in school. If for any reason your child cannot attend please inform us in good time either by phone call, letter or at the office.

 Meetings with staff

Staff are happy to talk to you informally on the playground at the end of each day. If you require a more formal meeting please make an appointment in the office. Please note that in the mornings staff are working hard to set up for the day so will not be able to see you without prior appointment.
